Which plan?
VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
VOTING HAS ENDED!!!
ALL PLANS PROPOSED SO FAR:
After plans and ideas are given here, we'll run another poll on them. I also included posts from the other thread.
ALL PLANS PROPOSED SO FAR:
- Sohd's:
- Here's my plan. Lets call it "The Best Plan in the World"
obs: I barely read the previous plans so sorry if I repeat something
1- I think the most important thing to atract new players is making the game fun for "someone" rank. Here's a few ideas:
- add a bunch of custom racing levels to the game
- add some easy customs (not racing) too
- add a few medium dificulty levels, but they are NOT chosen randomly - they can only be chosen by putting !level
- randomize the levels more. Right now it seens we play a bunch of john levels, then a bunch of yck levels, then go back to john, etc. Make it really random; you play Defamation, then front door, then Cubicles?! for example
- on the game page, under the game window, add all the codes we can use (!level, !custom, !time and all level numbers), basicaly how it was on the white site.
2- Add Exit button
3- Show who put the level to prevent trolling
4- Be more careful with auth. Only give auth to trusted players (duh) and only after they have played for at least a month. If they keep whining for auth, treaten to ban them.
Seriously, some people seen to feel sorry for "someone" rank, but just "someone" is much more fun than playing on AG already. They can chat in-game and play yck levels. That's AWESOME. When I first joined I only wanted to play yck levels, and didn't found out custom levels existed until like 1 week later.
ps: I called this a "plan" just for fun, actualy it's more of a suggestion because 1, 2 and 3 depends totaly on yck and will probably never happen. I think mentors and mods should keep 4 in mind though. Annoying "someone"s can be muted, but annoying authed people can crash rooms and annoy AG users.
- Princevladlin's "Plan Nihilist Taco":
- Plan Nihilist;Taco
There is no plan. I think the whole plan thing is kind of a bad idea. Previous plans were too bloated and complicated to be of much use. With so many elements involved, disagreement is pretty likely, even if it's just over one thing.
Therefore, I propose that any issues be evaluated separately in the general discussion forum. I do, however, think a few things should be taken into consideration when dealing with all of them:- What is the desired outcome? If something's broken, fix it. If the goal is to get more people involved in the ep community, there's not much you we can do to push that. There are definitely some things we could do (i.e. play in ag rooms more or improve YEP to make it more enticing to new/old players), but people will become involved if they want to. The most the community can do would be to ensure that its presence is known and that it is open to those interested (and here's where the question comes in of whether or not to do away with invite codes or let TPs generate invite codes)
- YEP is in yck's hands. Any changes that we want to be made to the game and site have to be implemented by him. If he doesn't agree or doesn't have the time, nothing will happen.
So my plan is simply that if there are any concerns and issues that people wish to discuss (bugs and improvements; authority system; invite code system) should be addressed separately and not as a package.
The issues that seem to have popped up the most are:
.making improvements to YEP as a game
.changing/altering authority/ranks (i.e. mentor, mod, someone)
.getting rid of invite codes or making the site easier to get on
.playing on ag more and being of more help
I haven't heard anyone voice an opinion against improvements, and we already have a section in the forum for proposed improvements.
I think the next two should be discussed separately.
As for the final one, it's really a voluntary thing.
As for recommendations, I would recommend that we add more admins to the site. The most realistic thing we can do to make YEP better is to actually make YEP better. As I've said, right now we're limited by yck's abilities. Past plans put too much pressure on yck.
I agree here completely. I think it would also be a good idea to consider getting other people to help out if possible and to find out if anyone else here has experience with flash games/actionscript.Zenzational wrote:We should add a couple administrators too (removable by yck1509 just in case), that are really trusted and know how to run and manage a site, fix problems, and implement changes. - What is the desired outcome? - Nabbit's "Plan Carrot":
- Hope for the best, expect the worst
Well... I guess I should make one. (By the way... YEP = Yck Exit Path)
A look at YEP so far:
I guess everyone's opinion on YEP as a whole right now is different, but I would like to state some of my observations here so I can clearly state the problems I will be addressing with this plan and clear up, what I believe, are some fallacies made about the site:
- YEP isn't dying. We have always been a small, private community, but that doesn't make us weak. Sure we're going to be a ghost town someday if we don't invite new members, but I don't see this in the near future. People go on vacation for a while, but they always return for a bit. Like I've heard many people say to me, and from my own observations over the years, you can never quit EP. And because of that motto we have a strong community, despite our small size. The few, the proud.
- We do have a problem with getting new members to the site. People need invite codes to get into the site and there aren't enough people willing to go into 1.0 rooms to hand them out. I think also ever since we've moved from the google site, (which had no invite codes or moderation system) we've gotten more elitist than before. I see that in the way we've been treating our most recently added members... some of the more annoying newbies amongst them were a common occurence on the old site. Because of that, i would like to make something clear: if we make the site more accessible, we're going to get annoying people, and YEP isn't going to burn in hell if that happens. It's the internet, there's stupid people on here. It can't be helped.
- Yck isn't that active. It's going to be extremely hard to get him to do a bunch of programming /changes since he's distant. And he has the final word on all of this; I would like to remind everyone of that.
- Both good and bad came from the mentor rank. One good result is that the mentors are active and strong, unlike most of the moderators. They've helped keep the site tame and orderly. I think a few of them could be fantastic moderators. However, there are (were (?)... there's been so many rank changes since the whole plan thing started) too many, due to moderators carelessly handing out mentor ranks to a bunch of people. This caused too much power to be in the hands of too many people, and things got chaotic.
- The moderators, as a whole, suck. Most of the moderators are inactive, and things have been stressful with us lately. I'm not saying I'm the perfect mod, because I'm really not, but we need changes in this category too...
- And then all of that fancy stuff people want to be changed in the actual game. Idk enough about the game itself to state anything here, but I know it's an issue. (Yck, I want to shoot lasers at people in game when they're ahead of me. Can you add that in?)
So... I'll be addressing all the problems listed here. But the following is not only going to be what I think we should do, but more importantly, how we should go about doing it.
LETS CHUNK IT
This idea is ripped off from Princevladlin, but I'm putting it here because it's a fucking good idea, bitches. If we try to make gigantic plans that address everything at once, they won't suffice because people might agree with some parts of the plan but not all of it which would result in endless fighting, or people will TL;DR it like most will do with this post. xD Take the problems on one at a time and not all at once so we're not overwhelmed.
I was thinking we could go about doing this by creating a thread that focuses on one problem on the site. (Mentors, recruiting...) Discuss it, decide on something, done. We lock the thread up and move on to the next issue. And we'll make one thread at a time. If my plan wins... I think the first thing we should discuss is whether to open the site or not and if so by how much.
The following I'm putting in spoilers because I doubt everyone will agree with every part I say, which is why I suggested the above; we can decided on each individual topic and not everything at once. If you read anything in this post... read the above. Because the below I kind of doubt will happen because we're limited by Yck but I wish it would. But anyways, more opinions from me.- Recruiting:
- I think the best thing we can do is scrap invite codes. It will make the site less complicated and easier to join. Word of YEP will spread around faster because all someone would have to do to get their friend on to YEP is to give him/her the URL, no generating invite codes. And if we don't like someone who joins, we ban them. Simple. Also another great thing is it doesn't require Yck to code anything! Yay! \o/ (Or at least I assume so lol.)
The recruiter rank I think is kind of pointless since mentors/moderators can just do that job on their own, and besides, we can't force people to invite people. They would just rather not have the rank if we used deadlines against them. Also people could make alternate accounts to fufill their rank requirements for the day. By getting rid of invite codes the site URL will be free to spread around on its own and then we don't have to worry about recruiting people.
Oh yeah... I'm against telling AG about the site. Too much risk. Yck's head will be eaten by AG zombies.
- Mentors:
- So I think we should keep the mentor rank, because the mentors have been very helpful around the site. It also singles out potential moderators and such. We just need to limit their powers a bit. Get rid of their ability to ban, maybe even auth/deauth. It would be great if Yck could somehow limit the number of mentors on the site to 10 or 15 with code so we don't have 40 again... have some sort of maximum number. That's the only way I can think of making sure there aren't too many mentors on here.
- Administrators?:
Well it would be great if this happened, because then we can get more stuff programmed. But I think it's pipe dreams. We don't know anyone who can code on here the way Yck can. We can't pull programmers out of thin air. (Well actually I know a guy... but nobody really knows him...) But hey. If a programmer randomly appears on the site and Yck supports I'm all for this.Zenzational wrote:We should add a couple administrators too (removable by yck1509 just in case), that are really trusted and know how to run and manage a site, fix problems, and implement changes.
- Site space issues (For lack of better terminology):
So Yck said we were using around 80% of the free traffic that's allowed on the site. Opening up the site is obviously going to bring more people if which could cause us to exceed the number of hits we're allowed. There's really no easy solution to this. Someone could help fund the site, but who would volunteer? x.x We could resort to advertising, but then we'd have to dabble with copyright stuff which also doesn't sound too good. This isn't much of a solution, but I say lets see what happens. It would be bad if we wasted a whole bunch effort in this category and watch nothing happen to the site population after we open up.
- Moderators:
- Yeah... a lot of us are inactive/quit... so I wouldn't mind seeing some more active moderators. I think we have a few mentors that could make good moderators. :p
- In game changes:
- I'm not an EP pro, so I don't have any specific suggestions for this area. However, since this stuff requires coding, I think the best thing we can do is create a thread that's like a wishlist for things Yck should code. Actually, I believe something like this has been made already. We can move good ideas/suggestions and have Yck check what's on it every once in a while and hope he codes some things.
Ok I think this is done now. xD
- Zenzational's Plan:
- Ok, I'll pitch in a plan I drafted that's pretty easy to follow.
1.) Make the creator yck1509 appoint at least 2 more administrators that can also appoint other administrators and so on as well as other ranks, but.... yck1509 can remove administrators if needed. The administrator(s) must know how to run and manage a site, fix bugs and issues, check into the site every so often, answer Moderator's questions, and be a "chill" and "cool" person overall. No offence to yck1509, but if he dies in real life, it could mean the end to his wonderful creation.
2.) Host neatly organized tournaments on special occasions like holidays or breaks where a majority of people will have time to play and get on. These tournaments must be somewhat fair and fun and have a good prize to the winner(s) to attract the most out of it. A good prize may be a Moderator/Administrator shout-out (winner's username here) to the EP community or a level dedicated to the winner.
3.) Invite, invite, invite (why am I not a mentor yet, can't invite anyone >.>), to increase flow, regulations and stuff in EP, we should increase people who play on EP and make it easier for people to register. They don't have to level 41 grandmasters (their AG account could be deleted), they just have to be nice, speak some English, and not annoying and WE have to be nice, willing to teach, and have fun and deal with any problems they run into.
I noticed Y-EP lacks 1 important factor: FUN (F is for friends who do stuff TOGETHER, U is for U and ME, N is for anytime and anywhere here in the deep blue sea err...Y-EP room)
Tips on how to increase FUN in Y-EP gaming:
1.) Keep lobbies full at 5 people when possible, so it attracts more spectators, and it'll whip up excitement and chat causing spectators to join and fill up any spaces if players decide to leave.
2.) DO NOT play hard levels. Most of the fun in EP is generated when a full lobby is focused on racing on a level, playing tag, or completing a fun easy custom.
Also in serious fun racing, its better if everyone gives effort to get first place then a few so people can get excited. Its also better if people don't request others to "wait for them" at the finish since it can turn people off Exit-Path-wise.
3.) Get on regularly and host occasional tournaments or contests. This can quickly rev up a big fun party group and some big FUN Very Happy.
That's all from me.
- Plan Ø by Ozone Layer :
- Plan Ø: To go with the flow. Maybe the end of EP is unavoidable. Maybe, the best time that people will have in EP will be the coming months. Maybe people will start to come back, or stay. Maybe, we can just forget about all these other plans and stop making things so complicated. And most importantly...
Maybe, we can die with EP...with no regret.
Maybe...(put your idea here)
- Plan SM69 by Steinwayartist and Mickeyryn:
- ********Plan SM69 by Steinwayartist and Mickeyryn*********
This plan is very easy to start and to accomplish, it is a quick and easy solution to the problems we are having. Enjoy.
Basically, we are trying to give TP's the power to invite people. Now, we must keep tract of who invited who because if a TP invites a troll, they will be demoted to someone, and someones cannot invite people. TP's are our biggest majority, so we need to keep them happy and keep us happy. Noobs are allowed here, we have many tutorials and options for them to learn and thrive here, and that is what we want :)The new players are our fuel for the future.
I hear that we are nearing our maximum number of people on this site, around 80% full for the database, so we should really consider getting rid of all of the players who have not been here in several months, the banned people, and those who have not even logged on once!!!!! We will delete their profile so we have more space for the good amount of players we are to receive. If we have a huge influx of people, we will need a few more active moderators to keep the influx in order (maybe 2 or 3) , and to get ban the possible new trolls and demote those who invited them.
Now, here is the new idea i had in mind. Every week, we will find a few TP's or someones who have done a good deed or two for our site. One person every week will receive a customized thank you from a moderator (or maybe a mentor) thanking them for their good work, this should inspire them to keep playing and keep doing good deeds. Its very easy, and requires little work.
Also, to keep yck exit path very fun and active, we should hold biweekly or weekly (to be determined) tournaments where someones, TP's, mentors and mods compete to see who is the most skilled on Exit path at their ranking. Then, we shall find the best from each rank and they will be posted on an updated board. They will be noticed
One big question which lots and lots of people are thinking about is "what will happen to the mentors"?? We have decided that we will (place large statement here) either keep it or don't. In my opinion (this wont show on actual plan) i think we need one more admin, maybe 3 or so more mods (they will be chosen by the mods from the current selection of mentors that we have). and after that, we get rid of the mentor rank, it has caused a few problems here that will not "be forgotten".
Anyways, this is our plan, very basic, no having to worry about copyright and such or a public site, it is very basic and only affects the our private community. The only risky part is the invite codes for the TP's, and if it doesn't work well and invites many trolls that we don't want, we can just simply repeal that part and hope that everything else is enough.
the US government has worked for centuries and has not fallen with their ideas, it is slighly complicated, but why not make it like that? the president (admin) has cabinet members ( head mods) and they have the senate (regular mods) and we can get rid of the mentor rank. We will add a couple more admins and mods, and an admin/mod to control the tournys.
But as we know that the mentors don’t want to lose their rank (except for steinwayartist, however), the only rank to incorporate is head mod and 1 more admin, thats it. Then we will let the mods vote over keep or lose mentor
The big picture and basic picture of this plan
1) Keep everyone alike on yck active
2) keep it fun with friendly competitions and new people to meet
3) have the rankings live up to their name.
**********In a nut shell, this plan will reduce the member list, deleting banned/inactive accounts that have been inactive for atleast 3 months so there wont be a insane influz of players breaking down the dam, appoint a larger hierarchy system, have a few tournaments where the winner will be promoted and or NOTICED!, and invite more and let TPs invite: ones who invite trolls get demoted and the invitees will be tracked, also, we should have a kindof senate/hierarchy where there is Admins, then head mods, then mods, TPs and then on and on. We shall let the mods decide whether or not to keep the mentors (we both think these just cause a considerable amount of trouble, and last but not least, fix some buggies! OH AND LET TPs AND UP INVITE PLAYERS!!!!~IT DOES NO ONE GOOD TO JUST LET MENTORS+ INVITE PLAYERS!!!!*********

Re: VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
We should just focus more on finding and reaching out to people on AG. It'll take nothing more than that. We just gotta treat players nice and understand that they are new and still can learn, and teach them how to be real racers and tricksters

I think making it easier to register on YckEP might help get people to the site. I remember trying to explain the invite code to someone I wanted to recruit, but he didn't understand.

Im back, so you know when i get back, this stuff gets serious xD. So, i think that we should wait for Armor games to come to us, we dont want to start something we might be able to avoid. Thats my opinion, here is my new and easy plan. Its so easy that i can do almost all of the work, it requires nothing out of the site. TP's having the ability to invite people before mentors, so I see no reason why it would not work now (Especially with the increased moderation power there is. Futher moreI have always thought deleting inactive accounts is a good idea.
On another note has yck even made an account here yet :3....

I'm fairly sure that YEP is near capacity for daily traffic, not for how many people have registered on the site. Unless I am incorrect, it does not matter how many have registered.
Re: VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
Here's my plan.

Re: VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
How much traffic is used by the game vs memberlist and profiles?
If profiles use too much we could remove them, and let only mods see memberlist so it uses less too

Post plans here! - New YEP revival thread
We should add a couple administrators too (removable by yck1509 just in case), that are really trusted and know how to run and manage a site, fix problems, and implement changes.
I mean if yck dies (no offence), its all over....

I do, however, think a few things should be taken into consideration when dealing with all of them:
I think it would also be a good idea to consider getting other people to help out if possible and to find out if anyone else here has experience with flash games/actionscript.

- What is the desired outcome?

Re: VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
we have been through plan Q and it appears to be that no one is really willing to put it in gear. So i am thinking baby steps and not long jumping. i think we need a combination of Zen's post, Sohds idea, and mine. They are all basic ideas that can improve our site and are not totally out of our league. I mean if we go with all of our plans combined, it might work. And Zen did say that if yck dies, its all over, so we do need another Admin or two. I mean the Head Mod and mod thing in plan Q was not a bad idea. With the large influx we may have with the plan we choose, it will come in handy. The more active the better!! ^^ I do think we need to do another poll. HOWEVER!!! we keep track of who voted for what plan, and they will promise in return that for their vote, they will have to help us if we need it, so we just cant have what happened last time, ACTION MUST HAPPEN!!! we dont know how long we have left!!!

Traffic is just hits. Profiles don't matter.
Y-EP VERSION 2.0
First of all, can someone please sticky this?
I BELIEVE just one of the many reasons Y-EP disbanded (partially) is because new OK players who got invited because of their friends started inviting other people, people who couldn't simply wall-jump. I remember LichtDesZorns, a great friend and mentor, who left because of this reason. I know and am sure that many others have left on the same behalf. So we should help players to not be this way! Having too much of an elitist community will not water the plants, it will dry them out! Having this will just exclude all the other players that could be here (who are currently) on AG-EP making us seem, and I'm sure making some of us feel like a couple of old geezers sitting alone in a broken busted down old mansion (#thatbrucewaynelife) . As much as we would all hate to have noobs and, yes, I'll admit some semi-good players flooding in, making us wait for them for hours (on end) to warp, I think we may just have to grow this virtue called... wait for it... Patience! What is that, gimme the EP definition? We need to teach the new players to have the skill and to play to our skill level. It would be more fun for everyone, by:
a) we'll have some challenges/competition
b) we'll have more players on
c) with active players it won't feel like a barren desert
d) and, of course we will have a tighter, friendlier, happier, skilled community.
I think this revolutionized Y-EP version 2.0 shall be like a plus 1 party. If you join, if you get the beautiful chance to join this amazing community (I think) , if you meet certain requirements (which I can list below) you must invite/recruit another, and train them and help them to pass the required test to join.
Proposed Requirement(s) :
Pass a test. This test will be made up by executive levelmakers (guest_phoenix94305, dragon144, sohdbrimks, Xakaze) and will change every month. The contestant will be required to complete a series of obstacle courses, e.g. triple, warp, corner jump, walljump within a time limit. It shant be too hard, as we wouldn't want to scare off any possible rising stars, be it shant be too easy, either, for we wouldn't want any run-of-the-mill Joe Biden jumping into the fray. To be on this private site, you don't have to be a pro either. Just complete a pretty nice test in the time limit and join. In order to test someone like this too, we should get Yck1509 to make a public training server, with training levels like dragon144's "fundamentals-just those basics!" Again, I will state, that when someone would join, they should recruit atleast one new person to be trained, which will aid to the "keeping-this-site-active-so-that-we-are-not-in-a-barren-desert" part of this revolutionary part in our community, in this site, in our Y-EP version 2.0 .
Thanks guys!

And p.s. Please tell me what you think! Comment below, because I know this part in our beloved community is very controversial!

Re: VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
i do think we have to keep someones and TP's on our site, they are our majority by a lot! so we need to keep them having fun with new things, maybe contests of levels or something. But noobs are not bad actually, all we need are proper tutorials and a noob can be made into a pretty good player. But maybe we should make a tutorial site, not public. But just so that the new players can hone some skills before the real deal.

Oh boy oh boy oh boyy!
My topic was moved!
Anyways yes, Dragon's tutorials were amazing. But I think, before anyone jumps to any quick shitty solution, let's work on getting our long lost (not, they are actually available for download, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) levels back onto our beloved new forum.

Re: VOTING CLOSED! - New YEP revival thread
Other input real quick: I figured it up (because I was bored and wanted to do math).
Out of all of our (unbanned) players on memberlist, 26.5% are inactive. See skypechat for numbers if you want to correct me (at and around 9:30pm EST, 8/8/13).
Inactive, in this case, is defined as not being on YEP for five months or more. Pretty sure most people know banned = no one.

Figuring This Shit Out!
Yes, @holdonmyheart !
Let's figure out a weekly (or monthly or whatever) time that will be convenient for the majority that we will meet up and chat, and BTW, pardon my neanderthal-like ignorance, but is the chat thing people have been talking about the chat that is on the main page for this website?
Sheir tha luv!
